Where to download digital comics for your own reader

If you want comics to upload to comics.starbugstone.com, look for downloads supplied as PDF, CBZ or another supported comic archive. Public-domain collections and creator or publisher stores are useful starting points.

Some services let you download a file to keep; others provide access only through their own website or app. It’s worth checking which one you’re getting before buying.

I built the reader to organise and read my own files. This guide covers sources for downloadable comics, followed by official platforms you can use when a separate file isn’t available.

Availability and formats vary by title, so check the individual listing as well as the store’s general description.

Sources for downloadable comics

These are places to look for files you can add to a personal library.

Digital Comic Museum

Digital Comic Museum focuses on older comics, particularly Golden Age material.

Its volunteers research the public-domain status of the comics in the collection. Registration is free, and downloads are available through the site.

It’s a useful starting point if you’d like to explore older comics while trying the reader.

Comic Book Plus

Comic Book Plus is another archive of older comics and related material.

Alongside Golden Age comic books, you’ll find strips, magazines and other historical publications. There’s some overlap with Digital Comic Museum, but the collections and browsing options differ.

itch.io

For independent work, try itch.io’s comics section.

Creators can offer their comics as free downloads, pay-what-you-want releases or paid purchases. Many use PDF; the PDF comics tag helps narrow the search.

Check the creator’s page for the included format and any conditions on using or sharing the file.

DriveThruComics

DriveThruComics sells digital comics from independent creators and smaller publishers.

Many listings offer PDFs. Check the format on the product page before purchasing, particularly if you want a file that works outside the store’s own tools.

Humble Bundle

Humble Bundle runs book, comic and manga bundles from time to time.

The delivery format depends on the bundle. Some provide DRM-free PDF, CBZ or EPUB files; others use a separate reading service. Check the included formats before paying.

A bundle with downloadable PDF or CBZ editions can be a useful way to try several series at once.

Official online reading platforms

These services are also worth exploring, although access through an app or website doesn’t necessarily include a file for your own reader.

Check the title’s purchase and download options if keeping a separate copy matters to you.

MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA

MANGA Plus is Shueisha’s international manga platform, including chapters released alongside their Japanese publication.

It’s a useful place to follow current manga through the publisher’s own service.

WEBTOON and WEBTOON CANVAS

WEBTOON includes professionally published series and independent work on WEBTOON CANVAS.

It’s mainly a platform for reading online or in its app. Browse it for the comics themselves, and check the available options for any separate download.

GlobalComix

GlobalComix carries comics and manga from independent creators and established publishers.

Reading access, offline app access and downloadable editions can differ. Check what the particular title offers before assuming a purchase includes a PDF or CBZ.

Checking items on the Internet Archive

The Internet Archive has a large collection of comic-related material, including public-domain and creator-authorised works.

Check each item’s source and rights information. Appearing in an archive search doesn’t by itself establish permission to download or redistribute it.

Digital Comic Museum and Comic Book Plus are more focused starting points for browsing older comic collections.

How to upload a comic to Panel Page Flip

Once you have a suitable CBZ or PDF file that you’re entitled to use:

1. Create an account or sign in at comics.starbugstone.com.
2. Upload the comic file.
3. Add it to your library and organise it as you prefer.
4. Open it in single-page, double-page or scrolling mode.

The reader manages the files you supply. A physical book purchase or an online reading subscription doesn’t necessarily come with a downloadable edition.

Sharing permissions are separate too, so check them before using the reader’s sharing feature.
